There is no fixed date – as it depends on whether the courses are offered in semester 1 or semester 2 – the closing date is following the end of the appropriate course/courses.

Each year we award a prize to an arts or medical or health sciences student for the best essay relating to medical history. We would of course look forward to meeting you and hearing it at one of our meetings.
The main purpose of the Prize is to recognise and reward the student who has written the most outstanding essay on a subject related to medical history.
The Auckland Medical History Society Essay Prize was established in 2016 by the Auckland Medical History Society. The society was established in 1964 and its mission is ‘the promotion of an interest in, and knowledge of, medical history through lectures, discussions, exhibitions and other means’.
Middlemore Hospital
The Prize of $500 will be awarded annually to the full-time student at Stage III or Honours level at the University of Auckland who achieves the highest mark in a essay on a subject/subjects relating to the history of Medicine. As a minimum standard, the student must achieve an A- grade. The essay should be a 5,000 word essay or alternatively you could present a portfolio consisting of two 2,500 word essays.
Courses related to the history of Medicine are HISTORY 367 and 725, and MBChB 311.
The winner will present their essay to the Society as part of our Speaker Programme.

Is there a fixed or approximate closing date each year?
What is the system for appointing assessors of submitted essays?
The assessment is overseen by the Deputy Head, School of Humanities, Faculty of Arts, and the Head of the FMHS Medical Humanities programme.
Is there a fixed time for notifying the result?
The student is notified by Scholarships Office as soon as the signed selection memorandum has been received and processed.
How to apply
You do not need to apply for prize or complete an online application form. The AMHS essay prize is awarded on the recommendation of the relevant faculty or University of Auckland committee.
